CASE STUDY 01
Shortening Pools
A Bluewater Pools(Aust)P/L Case Study
This is a Bluewater Pools case study of a pool size reduction project. The new owners of this home were in full renovation and restoration mode of the entire property, including the swimming pool and surrounding areas. Bluewater Pools expertise was sought for the possible removal of the existing 30-year-old marble sheen pool and replacing it with a smaller pool fitted out with current technology. The owners want to expand their entertainment area which is currently partially occupied by the existing pool.
Bluewater Pools proposed an alternate cost-effective solution of modifying the existing structure by shortening (removing) one end the pool located where the proposed new entraining area is intended. This is achieved by cutting across the pool and constructing a new reinforced pool wall. Our advanced methodologies successfully met the owners' goals while maintaining efficiency and delivering impressive results.
-
Step 1
Using a compressor with pneumatic hammers, a trench was cut down the pool walls and across the floor exposing the existing reinforcing steel in preparation for the construction of the new wall. The excavated material was removed off site with waste bins. Blue Water Pools never compromises with safety or cleanliness.
-
Step 2
A new pool wall was constructed incorporating steps within a timber formwork and additional reinforcing was secured to the original and now exposed reinforcement steel. Modern pool plumbing, electrics, heating manifolds, automatic pool cleaner lines, and pool lights were easily installed at this stage.
-
Step 3
Medium viscosity hydrophobic epoxy adhesive applied to the old concrete at the join, ensuring a secure bond between the new & the old concrete. The pool is resurfaced with 32mpa high strength super spray swimming pool mix. Structural engineer oversees the project from design to concrete placement & a Certificate for structural adequacy is issued.
-
Step 4
A building code compliant certificate for structural adequacy is issued for the amazing completed works. The complete project was accomplished far sooner than what would have been required in removing the old structure and constructing a smaller pool. There’s also the added benefit of the huge cost savings and the site disturbance was minimal, much to the delight of the owners.
CASE STUDY 02
Making Pools Deeper
A Bluewater Pools(Aust)P/L Case Study
These clients purchased their new home with an in-ground pool, measuring approximately 7 meters long and 4.5 meters wide. We believe the pool was built with very young children in mind due to its shallow depth. Of the 7mtrs of water length, 5.5mtrs of this length is no more than half a meter (50cm) deep, the remaining 2mtrs length only 1.6mtrs deep. Originally designed for young children, the pool's configuration was unsuitable for a family with teenagers, prompting thoughts of demolition and filling the pool with soil and grassing the entire area.
Bluewater Pools were invited to offer alternative solutions and following lengthy discussions for remedial options, the family engaged Bluewater Pools to adapt the pool to safe acceptable depths, allowing for enjoyment by all family members.
-
Step 1
Difficult site access made it impossible for demolition with plant equipment. The alternative was manual demolition. Compressors with pneumatic hammers were used to demolish and break through the pool structure, exposing a sandstone rock shelf under the pool which also needed to be excavated in order to achieve the pool depths required. Waste bins were used to remove all excavated material and rubbish.
-
Step 2
The new pool shape was excavated, formed and steel placement tied into the existing exposed reinforcement steel, incorporating new internal steps, modern pool plumbing, heating manifolds and electrics. We fervently recommend using only highly experienced Sydney pool builders for this type of task.
Before surface concreting an application of a medium viscosity hydrophobic epoxy adhesive is applied to the old concrete at the join, ensuring a secure bond between the new concrete and the existing structure.
-
Step 3
It’s our comprehensive understanding of the critical elements involved throughout these steps that sets us apart from other pool builders who provide this service.
The entire pool was prepared and resurfaced with 32mpa high strength super spray swimming pool mix. The construction work, as always, was carried out in accordance with the recommendations and specifications of a structural engineer who oversees the project from excavation, through to the concreting process. Blue Water Pools never take shortcuts which is why we're recognised as Sydney's leading pool depth modifications company.
-
Step 4
The owners were ecstatic BlueWater Pools had accomplished what was thought to be an unimagined and impossible task. Instead of having the expense of partial demolition and filling for not much more outlay the client now has a very usable pool equipped with modern equipment much to the obvious delight of the teenage children and, of course Mum and Dad.
